About Emily Runyan
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- Founder of Tennessee Mental Wellness
- Founder of our In-Network "sister" practice, Horizon Counseling
- Corporate Workshop Trainer & Consultant
Emily Runyan is the founder of Tennessee Mental Wellness and its in-network sister practice, Horizon Counseling, serving clients across Nashville, Gallatin, and Hendersonville. For over 25 years, she has worked in the mental health field in settings ranging from wilderness therapy and residential treatment to community mental health and private practice—but at the core of it all has been one consistent calling: helping people experience meaningful, lasting change.
In Emily's clinical work, while she meets with adults from all walks of life, she is especially sought out by high-achieving professionals—leaders, entrepreneurs, athletes, and artists, and those who carry significant responsibility in their work and personal lives. Her clients often look “put together” on the outside, yet feel the weight of stress, pressure, or disconnection beneath the surface. Emily creates a space where they can slow down, be fully known, and do the deeper work that sustains both their success and their well-being.
In addition to her clinical work, Emily is a speaker and consultant who partners with organizations to improve communication, reduce stress and improve leadership and workplace culture. Drawing from her background in systems theory, interpersonal neurobiology, cultural anthropology, and her own experience building and leading multiple businesses, she offers a perspective that bridges human behavior and organizational dynamics.
Emily founded Tennessee Mental Wellness in 2017 with a vision of bringing a trauma-informed, Brainspotting therapy practice to Middle Tennessee. As the needs of the community grew, she expanded that vision with the launch of Horizon Counseling in 2025, creating two distinct pathways to mental health healing—one offering a more concierge, relationship-centered experience, and the other increasing access to excellent therapy for a broader population. Today, she leads both practices with a focus on clinical excellence and human connection.
Emily is deeply invested in the people she leads. She has built a team of exceptional therapists and a workplace culture that prioritizes growth, support, and sustainability—because she believes that when clinicians are well cared for, clients receive better care.
Outside of her work, Emily finds joy in the simple, grounding things—time outdoors, reading, yoga, laughter with close friends, and being with her husband and their blended family.
