About Bethany Legg, AMFT
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Supervised by Keiara Marsh-Cartwright, LMFT
In-person in Gallatin, TN • Online throughout Tennessee
Hi, I’m Bethany Legg, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), practicing under the clinical supervision of Keiara Marsh-Cartwright, LMFT, at Tennessee Mental Wellness in Gallatin, TN. I work with children (ages 5+), teens, adults, couples, and families from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. My clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that are hard to change on their own. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, or a life transition, therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what is happening, and begin moving toward meaningful change. I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative, respectful, and grounded in genuine connection. You don’t have to arrive with everything figured out. We figure things out together.
Who I Work With
I support children (5+), teens, adults, couples, and families navigating a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, identity development, people-pleasing, family-of-origin challenges, communication difficulties, and relational conflict. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in repeating patterns in their relationships or within themselves. I welcome clients of all backgrounds, identities, relationship structures, and belief systems. Wherever you are coming from, you are welcome here.
What I Specialize In
Trauma & Nervous System Healing
Trauma can shape the way we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. It can show up in our relationships, our emotions, and even in our bodies. In our work together, we focus on creating safety, understanding how your experiences have impacted you, and gently processing what feels overwhelming at a pace that feels manageable.
Anxiety, Depression & Life Transitions
Anxiety and depression often develop in response to stress, life changes, or long-standing patterns that feel difficult to shift. Together, we work to understand what is underneath those experiences, build awareness of your emotional patterns, and develop tools that help you feel more grounded and supported in daily life.
Relationships, Couples & Family Dynamics
As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, I view concerns through a relational lens. This means we explore not only what you are experiencing internally, but also how your relationships, family dynamics, and environment may be shaping those experiences. Whether you are navigating conflict, communication challenges, boundary-setting, or preparing for marriage, we will work toward healthier and more secure ways of connecting.
How I Work
EMDR Therapy
I am EMDR trained by a Certified EMDRIA clinician. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. EMDR can be helpful for trauma, anxiety, negative beliefs, and experiences that continue to affect daily life. Rather than simply managing symptoms, EMDR supports the brain’s natural ability to heal, allowing you to move forward with greater resilience and freedom.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a brain-body approach that helps access and process experiences stored within the nervous system. Sometimes words alone aren’t enough to reach the places where trauma, anxiety, or emotional pain are held. By using specific eye positions, Brainspotting allows us to work with the brain’s natural healing process without needing to revisit every detail of a painful experience. I incorporate Brainspotting when it is a good fit for clients who want to process experiences at a deeper level while moving at a pace that feels safe.
Solution-Focused Therapy
While understanding your past can be an important part of healing, therapy is also about recognizing your strengths and creating meaningful change in the present. Solution-Focused Therapy helps identify what is already working, clarify your goals, and build practical steps toward the future you want. I enjoy integrating this approach because it empowers clients to recognize their own resilience while developing realistic, achievable solutions.
Experiential Therapy & Expressive Interventions
Some experiences are difficult to put into words. Experiential Therapy creates opportunities to explore emotions through meaningful experiences rather than conversation alone. Depending on your needs, this may include expressive or art-based interventions, metaphor, mindfulness, or other creative approaches that help deepen insight, strengthen emotional awareness, and support healing in ways that feel authentic to you.
My Style
My approach is systemic, client-centered, and trauma-informed. I strive to create a warm, collaborative space where you feel safe, heard, and supported as we work toward the goals that matter most to you. Every client brings a unique story, so I tailor therapy to your individual needs while gently encouraging growth at a pace that feels manageable. I also enjoy incorporating education about the brain, nervous system, attachment, and trauma into our work, because understanding why your mind and body respond the way they do can reduce shame, increase self-compassion, and help make overwhelming experiences feel more understandable.
Background & Training
I earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Trauma-Informed Systemic Therapy from National University, and my Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Child Development from the University of North Alabama. Before becoming a therapist, I spent nearly a decade working with children and families through early childhood education, an experience that deeply shaped the way I understand emotional development, attachment, and the lasting impact of early relationships.
I provide therapy as an Associate MFT under the clinical supervision of Keiara Marsh-Cartwright, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Clinical Director at Tennessee Mental Wellness in Gallatin, TN.
Specialized training includes:
- EMDR trained through an EMDRIA-certified clinician
- Brainspotting-informed training and Brainspotting Expansion-informed training
- Trauma-Informed Systemic Therapy specialization
- Ongoing continuing education in trauma, attachment, couples therapy, and nervous system regulation
A Little About Me
I’m originally from North Alabama and grew up in a large blended family where I am the oldest of five, which shaped my early understanding of relationships, communication, and resilience. I’ve since made my home in the Nashville area and genuinely love being part of the Gallatin community. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with family, being in nature, and finding small moments of calm in everyday life. I value connection, humor, and slowing down when life feels too fast, and those same values show up in the way I work with clients.
Why I Became a Therapist
I’ve always been drawn to people, relationships, and the stories we carry. Even before I knew I wanted to be a therapist, I found myself curious about why people think, feel, and respond the way they do. Working in early childhood education gave me a front-row seat to how deeply relationships shape emotional development. I saw how small moments of connection or disconnection could have lasting impacts, and I became increasingly interested in what helps people heal and grow over time. That curiosity led me to Marriage and Family Therapy, where I found a way to support individuals while also considering the larger systems and relationships that influence their lives. Today I feel genuinely grateful to do work that helps people better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and move toward a life that feels more aligned and connected.
What I Believe About Therapy
A few things I hold onto in this work:
- Healing isn’t linear, and progress doesn’t always look the way we expect.
- You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.
- You are more than the hardest experiences you’ve lived through.
- Relationships shape us, but they don’t define what’s possible for our future.
